More and more people are taking advantage of long-term lash extensions. These extensions remain on the eyes for a number of weeks without needing to be removed or reapplied. If you have finally had some extensions put on, here are four tips you can use for taking care of your extensions and keeping them looking good.

Stay Away from Oil-Based Products

Even though your extensions should be able to stay on comfortably, one thing you must be aware of is that oil-based products might cause some of them to fall out. Why? Oil-based products can affect the effectiveness of the adhesive that is applied to the lashes to help them stay on.

Generally, this means that you have to pay close attention to what you're putting on your eyes and on your face around the eyes. For example, if you use mascara, it must not be waterproof, as many waterproof mascaras are oil-based. You need to search out makeup remover that is not oil-based as well. If you use moisturizer on your face, either avoid the eye area or check to ensure that it is not oil-based.

Use a Hair Dryer After Your Shower

Moisture from your shower might make your eyelashes start to feel a little heavy, and you might not want to wait for them to air dry. If this is the case for you, you can use a little help from your blow dryer. First, make sure it is on a "cool" setting, so you don't have to worry about air that is too hot on your face and damaging the lash adhesive. Then, hold the hair dryer down near your belly with the nozzle pointing up. Gently move your hand from side to side and allow the cool air to blow upward and dry out your lashes.

Comb Your Lashes

Depending on how long your extensions are, they may become somewhat unkempt if you leave them completely alone. Before heading out for the day, use a lash wand to comb through your lashes. You might have gotten one from the salon, but if not, you can purchase one at any beauty supply store.

Avoid Cotton Swabs

You may want to reach for a cotton swab to remove any eyeliner or eyeshadow that accidentally gets onto your lashes, but that could cause an additional problem. The cotton may end up getting snagged or tangled into your lash extensions, and you will then have to spend time picking it out. Instead, use a clean makeup sponge to gently wipe the lashes clean.

With these tips, your lashes can remain in great shape. Be sure to go in for regular touchups at a nearby salon so your eyes always look fantastic. For more information, contact Faces by Maryanna or a similar company.
